Episode #315
We Got Your 6@6 with THE PEOPLE'S PATRIOT PROJECT
This episode was like looking into a mirror—two very different stories shaped by many of the same struggles. Sean Young and Shannon Book opened up about addiction, disappointment, fatherhood, mistakes, and the difficult journey of owning your past while working toward a better future. Sean Young – Recover Out Loud Sean is a U.S. Army Veteran, Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) Mentor Coordinator, and practitioner of Peruvian Shamanism. After being medically retired following a brain injury, Sean quickly spiraled into addiction and struggled to find his way forward. Veterans Treatment Court became a turning point, connecting him with the support and accountability he needed. Today, Sean has turned those difficult experiences into an opportunity to help others in his community. His curiosity about Shamanism eventually led him to the right mentor, training, and a new path focused on helping people navigate some of life's most difficult and stressful moments. Through it all, Sean has rediscovered a love for life and the importance of being connected to others. His story is a powerful reminder that our lowest moments don't have to define us—and that sometimes the experiences that nearly break us can become the foundation for helping someone else. Music Guest – Shannon Book Shannon joined us for a deeply candid conversation about his music, his past, and the experiences that shaped the songs he writes. He shared the stories behind his music and opened up about the hope that someday his children—and others—will understand where he was then, where he is now, and where he hopes to go. “American Made” is Shannon's reflection on how we became who we are and who he is as he stands beneath the American flag. A strong believer in America and the principles it was built upon, Shannon shares his belief that we must stand strong and protect what makes this country special. “Little Things” was written during a difficult period in Shannon's life. It came from the realization that he had lost things, disappointed others, and disappointed himself. At its heart, the song is about his children and what they mean to him—whether they fully understand it or not. Thank you to Sean and Shannon for sharing your music, knowledge, honesty, and experiences with us. These are the conversations that remind us that recovery, accountability, connection, and hope can change lives.
