On Friday, October 13th 1972, a plane carrying a Uruguayan rugby team, along with friends and family, disappeared into the Andes Mountains. When the wreckage was finally found, the world would learn that some of the passengers had survived—and what they endured for 72 days in one of the most unforgiving places on Earth was almost impossible to comprehend. Stranded high in the mountains with no way to call for help, surrounded by snow and freezing temperatures, the survivors waited for a rescue that wasn’t coming.
