Not the strongest human who ever lived. Not the greatest swordsman. History's greatest loser. Kojiro lost every fight his whole life. And even after he died he kept replaying those losses in his mind, hundreds of thousands of times, until there was no move that hadn't already beaten him. So when he finally faces a god, he's already lost to every move that god could throw, ten thousand times in his head and now he knows how to counter all of it.   The Truth About Peptides, TRT and the Ozempic Boom - EP 314

  I sat down with Tony Whatley on the 365 Driven Podcast for a long, wide-open conversation and we ended up covering everything from my early years as a physician working in the California prison system, to walking away from the golden handcuffs to build a med spa company, all the way to the stuff everyone's whispering about right now: peptides, hormone therapy and the GLP-1 weight loss boom. If you've been curious what's real and what's hype in the wellness world, this is the honest version from someone who actually runs these treatments at scale, not a guru trying to sell you a protocol. On peptides, here's the truth I gave Tony. Peptides are just amino acids arranged in a specific chain and that chain flips a switch in your body, one might trigger more growth hormone production, another affects inflammation, another does something else entirely. Because they work through your body's own pathways instead of being anabolic like a steroid, they can be much safer, but there's a real catch: a lot of them are untested, the quality varies wildly and the FDA recently recategorized many that used to be legally compounded. So the "peptides fix everything" wave online has turned into the next get-rich-quick guru space and you have to know the difference between what's legitimate and what's hype. On hormones and TRT, my take is that what most people write off as a midlife crisis is very often just a hormone imbalance. Entrepreneurs get exhausted, foggy, moody, lose their drive and reach for the wrong fixes. Getting your hormones checked and balanced can do more for your sleep, focus, mood and sex life than a lot of the medications people get put on by default. You should not simply accept losing your energy and desire as you age. On the Ozempic boom, I break down the GLP-1 landscape, semaglutide and tirzepatide and why this is only the beginning. There's going to be a new, better weight loss drug essentially every year for the next several years because they're already deep in FDA trials. This category isn't a fad, it's a fundamental shift in how metabolic health gets treated. We also get into the business side that made all of this possible: how I scaled through acquisition, why you should never buy a business whose core values don't match yours, why there's no such thing as passive income in acquisitions and the mindset that pulled me out of the golden-handcuffs trap that quietly crushes so many high earners.   When I interviewed for my all boys high school, I mentioned in passing that my family ate dinner together every night. I didn't think it was special. That's just what we did. Nobody got up until everyone was finished. Afterward the priest pulled my dad aside and asked if it was really true, every night. My dad said yeah, every night, no matter what. The priest said something my dad never forgot: I can count on less than four fingers the families I've ever met who actually do that. Hundreds of families and fewer than four ate together every single night. I didn't get it until years later. My senior year we did a three day retreat built to help kids find their identity. My parents asked what I learned. I said the food was good. There was nothing left to find because my identity was already built. It got instilled at the dinner table, one ordinary night at a time, before any retreat got a shot at me. Here's why it matters if you're building something. Whether you like it or not, the world is going to disciple your kids. Their phone, their friends, the culture, somebody is going to tell them who they are. The only question is whether you got there first. And this is straight leadership too: what you protect daily is what you actually value, not the words on your website. My dad ran a business and still made the table non negotiable. You can be a killer in the boardroom and completely present for twenty minutes at home. Those two things are not in conflict. So pick your table. Maybe it's dinner, maybe it's the drive to school, maybe twenty minutes before bed. Then make it a law, not a nice idea.   The Hardest Truths About Scaling a Business | Operator Standard Q&A - EP312

  I got on an open forum call with a room full of operators and told them to ask me anything, business, hiring, scaling, partners, family, all of it. No script, no filter, just real questions from people actually building. This is the stuff that doesn't make it into a polished keynote. We covered a lot of hard truths in this one. The first one I hit them with up front: to get where you want to go you're going to have to sacrifice more than you think is enough, for probably twice as long as you think you'll have to. Most people quit right in the middle of that stretch. I also got into why, if I could scale again, I'd go slower. Growing too fast meant hiring a pile of bodies and then turning around and firing them and getting back to our core values meant replacing most of the team to rebuild the standard we started with. What got you here won't get you there. I broke down the mistake of expanding into too many cities and states at once and why you should own your zip code first, become the go to business in your city, then spread one zip code at a time instead of jumping four cities over. We talked about when to actually take on an investor and the trap of giving up equity to someone who only brings money when a bank would give you that same money without taking a piece of your company. If a partner brings money and the expertise and the life you actually want, that's a different conversation and I walked through how to structure equity, voting rights and buy-back so you never end up a minority in your own business. Then we got into leadership and people. Why you build systems and processes that carry your core values instead of holding the whole thing together with your own hands. Why keeping a talented person who doesn't fit your standards lets the problem spread through the whole company. And a mindset that changed how I lead, everybody around you is making decisions because they think that decision will make them happier and understanding that gives you grace as a leader without lowering your standard.   Every Halloween growing up, my dad didn't just take us trick or treating. He dressed up too, in full costumes he hand sewed himself. And this grown man would walk right up to the door next to us and say trick or treat. People would look him up and down and go aren't you a little old for this? And every time he'd look them dead in the eye and say well, I'm also old enough to buy eggs now. Give me the candy or I'll be back later. I thought he was just being goofy. It took me years to see what I was really watching. A man being completely, unapologetically himself in a world that kept telling him he was too old, too big, too much. And he did not care even a little. This episode is about that voice in your head, the one that shows up the second you want to say the thing, build the thing, become the thing and whispers act your age, that's not professional, what will people think. That voice is not you. It's a committee. Every teacher who told you to sit down, every boss who wanted you smaller, every person who was more comfortable when you were a watered down version of yourself. You've listened to it so long you think it's your own voice. It's not. Most people spend their whole lives being who they think they're supposed to be. They pick the safe major, the respectable job, they sand off every edge that makes them interesting until they're smooth and forgettable and then one day they're fifty wondering why their life feels like it belongs to someone else. I'm a doctor who refused to be what a doctor is supposed to be and here's what I've learned. The loudest voice telling you to shrink usually comes from someone who already shrunk themselves, and it kills them a little to watch you refuse to do the same. That thing you keep talking yourself out of is usually the most valuable thing you've got because it's the one thing nobody can copy. Anyone can be the acceptable version. There are ten thousand of those. There's exactly one of you being you. You're going to get old either way. The only question is whether you spend those years being yourself or being a costume the committee approved.
