Episode #15
You’re Capable. But What’s Your Capacity?
What if the reason you’re overwhelmed isn’t because you’re incapable—but because you’re being asked to grow your capacity? In this episode of THE REAL, Sally explores the difference between capability—what you’re able to do—and capacity—what you’re able to hold, handle and sustain. After 27 years in commission-based real estate, building and owning a real estate franchise, starting a coaching company, raising three sons, and navigating life as a wife, daughter, sister and friend, Sally has learned that growth rarely feels comfortable while it’s happening. She shares the story of nearly talking herself out of starting her own company because she knew that once other agents trusted her with their livelihoods, quitting would no longer be an easy option. Then came a five-year office lease she personally guaranteed, a second mortgage to help fund the business—and eight failed real estate offers in a row during her first quarter. At the time, that first office felt like the biggest professional risk she would ever take. Looking back, it was simply the biggest thing she could imagine doing then . And in an unexpected connection, Sally shares a funny college memory involving homesickness, her cat and a couple of hermit crabs that became the perfect metaphor for growth: sometimes the shell that once fit us perfectly simply becomes too small for who we are becoming. This episode also explores leadership, people-pleasing, self-trust and why good judgment may become even more valuable in the age of AI. Technology can dramatically increase our capabilities, but we still need to think, make decisions, tolerate uncertainty and trust ourselves when there is no obvious answer. This episode offers practical ways to begin expanding your own capacity today by deliberately doing things that stretch you, making decisions instead of endlessly circling them, becoming comfortable being a beginner, taking up more space and learning that discomfort doesn’t always mean stop. Doing hard things IS the way. Because sometimes the life that feels overwhelming today becomes the life you handle with ease tomorrow—not because life got smaller, but because your capacity got bigger.
