The Charlie Kirk Effect: Boldness, Forgiveness & Speaking the Truth
One year after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Jon Groves and Eli Blevins ask what his life, death and legacy have actually changed in the American Church. They look back at the immediate spiritual response after Charlie’s death, including people returning to church, Christians becoming more vocal about their faith and Eli’s experience sharing the gospel at a Turning Point event where 26 people responded. But a year later, has that boldness lasted? Jon and Eli discuss what made Charlie effective, why biblical boldness is different from belligerence, the importance of actually studying Scripture and apologetics before trying to speak into difficult cultural issues, and how ordinary Christians can use whatever God has already placed in their hands. They also tackle one of the harder questions raised in the aftermath of Charlie’s death: forgiveness. What does biblical forgiveness require? Does forgiveness have to be requested? Can you forgive someone without restoring the relationship? And what can pastors learn about handling betrayal, disagreement and hurt without becoming bitter? Finally, Jon and Eli look toward the next decade and ask whether Charlie’s death will help produce a generation of courageous Christians or whether the Church will retreat back into silence. This episode is ultimately less about becoming “the next Charlie Kirk” and more about becoming the person God has called you to be, wherever He has placed you.
