Behind the Sterile Field: Humanitarian Aid
This podcast has been adapted from the recent Behind the Sterile Field event, featuring Anaesthetist Dr Helmut Schoengen, Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Herwig Drobetz, and General surgeon Dr Fara Abdulaziz, speaking to their experiences working overseas. Humanitarian aid embodies the very essence of the Declaration of Geneva, the oath taken by every healthcare. It's an act of pure altruism, and across the globe, healthcare organisations unite to support those in need across a variety of challenging environments, including wartorn regions and acute health crises following natural disasters. ASSA is proud to have hosted a panel event welcoming three professionals who have made outstanding contributions to global health, who have kindly shared their experiences on the frontlines of humanitarian care. Behind the Sterile Field aims to give students direct insight into the experiences of surgeons working in unique and often challenging settings, while providing an opportunity to learn from and engage with those surgeons. For those interested, the full event recordng is available on the ASSA website under the membership portal: anzsurgsocs.org
