Welcome to the Mobian Studio Podcast https://mobian.studio/ , where we talk about digital products, technology, and the ideas shaping modern apps. Today, we’re discussing a question many people feel, even if they don’t say it directly - why do most apps feel the same today? Think about the apps you use every day. Different logos, different brands, different industries, but somehow the experience often feels familiar. Similar layouts, similar interactions, similar features. Even the language products use starts to blend together. And this isn’t happening by accident. Modern product development has become incredibly optimized. Companies analyze user behavior, follow established UX patterns, study competitors, and build around what already works. From a business perspective, that makes sense. Familiar products are easier to understand, easier to adopt, and usually safer to launch. But there’s a tradeoff. The more products optimize for predictability, the more difficult it becomes to create something memorable. Many apps today are not designed to feel unique - they’re designed to reduce friction. And while that improves usability, it can also remove personality. Another reason is speed. Teams are launching products faster than ever. Frameworks, templates, AI tools, and ready-made systems make development more efficient, but they also standardize how products are built. When everyone uses the same tools, references, and design logic, products naturally start to resemble each other. AI is accelerating this even more. As AI becomes integrated into product design, copywriting, support, and development workflows, many apps begin to follow the same patterns of interaction. The experience becomes cleaner and smarter, but sometimes also more generic. At the same time, users have changed too. People expect products to work instantly. They don’t want to learn complex interfaces or adapt to unfamiliar systems. That creates pressure to stay close to what users already recognize. So the challenge for modern product teams is no longer just building something functional. It’s building something people actually remember. And that’s becoming harder. Because differentiation today is less about adding more features, and more about creating a distinct experience, clear identity, and a product that feels intentional instead of assembled from trends. In many ways, the apps that stand out are not the ones doing the most - they’re the ones that feel the most human. If there’s one thing to take away from today, it’s this: technology has made building apps easier, but building products with real identity has become much more difficult.
