In the 1960's, with beaches covered with dead fish and the food chain for fish being decimated, Howard's boss gave him an incredible project to save the Great Lakes. When he asked his boss what do you suggest? He was told that he had no idea but to do something...and MAKE IT SPECTACULAR!! His idea worked, the lakes were restored and over time it enhanced the multi billion dollar fishing industry that emerged. Listen Saturday at 9AM as Doctor Will Schultz, DVM (retired) and Lee Cohen chat with Mark Stephens, a friend, neighbor and fishing mate of Howard who works for MSU and the DNR on Project FISH, Salmon in the Classroom and coming soon to school classrooms in Michigan, Sturgeon in the Classroom. DVM and Lee Cohen talk about these beautiful animals with Gabrielle Feighner from the Feighner Family Farm - When discussing the topic of Alpacas, we are fortunate to have a local farm that has a herd and can discuss everything about them. DVM (retired) and Lee Cohen talk about these beautiful animals from conception to old age with Gabrielle Feighner from the Feighner Family Farm in Haslett. Gabrielle will explain how she cares for Alpacas during the summer heat, the smokey hot summer days and how she manages the herd to keep them from breeding or acting badly with others (most of the time.) With Doctor Schultz being an expert in dog breeding, it wont surprise any of you when he and Gabrielle went deep into the weeds on the whole concept of proper breeding as Doctor Schultz learned the nuances of Alpacas and it was super interesting. You'll also learn about the value of Alpaca fiber and how the process works with shearing and converting the fiber into products in HUGE demand. Meanwhile they spend time bonding with you, getting much needed exercise and get mental enrichment as well.
