Episode #21
The Higher Purpose Behind Addiction
What if there is another layer to understanding addiction beyond the suffering it creates and the trauma that often sits beneath it? This is a deeply personal episode, recorded in the days following the funeral of a friend whose life, like mine, had been profoundly shaped by alcoholism and addiction. Through the lens of my own recovery, I explore a question I have found myself returning to again and again: “ Why might a soul choose a life that includes a path as difficult as addiction - and what might the entire experience be here to awaken, reclaim or develop within us?” This conversation moves through addiction, alcoholism, powerlessness, ego and surrender, exploring how the very experiences that bring us to our knees can also become invitations into greater levels of sovereignty, authentic power and an entirely different relationship with ourselves, with life and with the Divine. I also explore the soul groups we move through life with, the unseen ways our lives intersect and alter one another, and how one person's existence can create a ripple far beyond what they may ever recognise during their lifetime. And I go a little rogue into timeline jumping - sharing a profound recent experience that brought me face-to-face with the version of myself who never made the decision to get sober, and what that showed me about the power we all hold to change the trajectory of not just our own lives, but those we “left behind” as well. This episode is a raw exploration of what can emerge from the other side of our darkest experiences - and whether some of the paths that make the least sense from our human perspective can reveal something very empowering when viewed through the lens of the soul.
