SPFL weekend 8 review with Fraser MacLeod of The 30!
Hello and welcome to the Late Kick Off Scottish Football Podcast episode 223! Joining Jamie and Michael this week is podcast debutant Fraser MacLeod from ‘The 30’ on X and Instagram (@the_thirty_). In typical Sportsound fashion, we begin in the Premiership with Rangers as they visited Celtic Park in the second Old Firm in the space of a week. Elsewhere in the division, Dundee United dismantled a St Mirren side who have now lost three on the spin and we talk about the various incomings and outgoings at both Aberdeen and Hibernian. To the Championship: Stenhousemuir have had an excellent week with two wins and two clean sheets; Ayr United win at Hampden (Lesser) to put pressure on the bottom two clubs in the division; and why can’t anyone score as we examine a 0-0 between Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers, who failed to even had a shot on target at Firhill. Our descent down the league takes us to League One, where Montrose won their seventh game on the bounce, inflicting East Fife to their first league defeat at home in six months. A mention for Hamilton, knocked off the summit, but keeping pace with Ross County thanks to Andy Ryan’s first-half hat-trick against hapless QoS. And the marquee game featured a pod favourite, Kyle Glasgow scoring for Alloa Athletic, who stung, but were ultimately swatted away by visiting East Kilbride – who ironically play at the Bumblebee Stadium. And, finally, in the fourth tier, Stranraer visited Elgin in the longest journey between two SPFL clubs and battered their hosts and went to a point behind league-leading Clyde. In the village of Kelty, the Jambos lost their perfect home record and are now one of four teams sat on nine points, and Forfar get back to winning ways as they stop the bleeding of six winless outings by seeing off Annan Athletic.
