Episode #48
Montana Made: Rebecca Swandal
Rebecca “Becca” Swandal’s story begins on her family’s fourth-generation ranch in Montana’s Shields Valley, where family, hard work and community were part of everyday life. In this episode of Montana Made, Becca joins Krista to talk about growing up in a small Montana town, the role sports played in shaping her, and an extraordinary family legacy that stretches from ranching to the law. Her grandmother, Bonnie Swandal, passed the Montana Bar Exam in 1967 without attending college or law school, beginning a legal legacy that continued with Becca’s father and eventually Becca herself. Becca shares why she chose to stay in Montana for college and law school, how the loss of her older brother changed her plans, and why returning home was always important to her. She also talks about raising four children in the same community that raised her, taking over her grandmother’s law practice in Livingston, and her recent appointment by Governor Greg Gianforte to Montana’s Sixth Judicial District Court. Through it all, Becca keeps coming back to what matters most, her family, Shields Valley, and serving the community that raised her.
