The hedge fund industry manages trillions in assets, yet its inner workings remain opaque to most. Lucas and Luna cut through the secrecy, examining alternative investments, fund strategies, and institutional capital allocation with the rigor of industry insiders. Each episode starts with a real number—a fund's AUM, a fee structure, a performance metric—then builds outward. Lucas, a former analyst, presses for specifics on risk models and liquidity terms. Luna, a former allocator, challenges assumptions about manager selection and benchmarking. Together, they dissect recent 13F filings, analyze activist campaigns, and debate the role of private credit in a rising-rate environment. They look at how pension funds and endowments construct portfolios, what drives hedge fund fees, and whether alternative beta is a mirage. The listener is someone who reads letters from CIOs, not just headlines—someone who wants to understand not just what a fund did, but why. By the end, you won't get a hot

How Hedge Funds Use Carbon Credits as a Macro Hedge
Aug 21, 202612 minS4
Carbon markets are becoming a quiet corner of institutional portfolios. In this episode, Lucas and Luna look at why hedge funds are buying carbon allowances and offsets as a macro hedge, how the EU's emissions trading system sets the global benchmark, and what the price action in 2026 says about the shift from compliance to financialisation. They break down the mechanics of the carbon futures curve, the role of private credit in financing offset projects, and the risks of greenwashing that still make skeptics wary. With the S&P 500 down 0.9 percent in the last five days and tech wobbling, the hosts argue that carbon exposure offers a non-correlated return stream that increasingly belongs in a diversified portfolio. Tune in for a focused look at the numbers, the players, and the regulatory tailwinds behind this emerging asset class. #CarbonMarkets #CarbonCredits #HedgeFunds #ETS #ClimateFinance #EUETS #CarbonOffsets #InstitutionalInvesting #AlternativeInvestments #MacroHedge #PrivateCredit #Greenwashing #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Finance #Investing #ESG #CarbonFutures Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In this episode of The Hedge Fund Podcast, Lucas and Luna unpack one of the most quietly lucrative strategies in modern fixed-income investing: the Treasury basis trade. With the Fed's minutes showing a hawkish tilt and the VIX climbing 12 percent in a week, they explain how funds exploit the gap between cash Treasuries and futures contracts, why the trade blew up in 2020, and what today's lower margin requirements mean for systemic risk. The hosts walk through a concrete example using the ten-year note, discuss how hedge funds are positioning ahead of a potential rate hike, and debate whether regulators are doing enough to contain leverage. A must-listen for anyone trying to understand what's really moving the bond market underneath the headlines. #TreasuryBasisTrade #HedgeFunds #FixedIncome #BondMarket #FedMinutes #RateHike #VIX #Leverage #SystemicRisk #Futures #CashVsFutures #RepoMarket #BasisPoint #InstitutionalInvesting #Macro #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Hedge Funds Are Trading the Fed's New Hawkish Minutes
Aug 19, 20267 minS4
The Fed's August minutes revealed officials saw a need for a rate hike if inflation doesn't cool — a sharp pivot from the easing bias that had been priced in all summer. On this episode, we break down what the minutes actually said, why the S&P 500 dropped 1.2 percent over five days as a result, and how hedge funds are repositioning their portfolios. We look at specific trades: from shorting rate-sensitive tech to buying gold miners, and why the VIX's rise to 14.89 might be just the beginning of volatility. We also discuss the retail investor caution showing up in ETF flows, and how the 'higher for longer' narrative is reshaping both equity and bond strategies. If you're a macro-driven investor, this is the playbook for the next few weeks. #HedgeFunds #FederalReserve #RateHike #Inflation #MacroStrategy #Volatility #S&P500 #GoldMiners #RetailInvestors #ETFFlows #MonetaryPolicy #FOMCMinutes #TradingStrategies #Finance #Investing #BusinessPodcast #FexingoBusiness #MarketSignals Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Hedge Funds Mine the VVIX for Volatility Signals
Aug 18, 20267 minS4
Lucas and Luna break down the VVIX — the volatility of the VIX — and how hedge funds are using it as a leading indicator in the current market. With the VIX at 15.84 and the VVIX at 92.87, the hosts explain why this 'vol of vol' can signal shifts in market sentiment and how funds trade it. From the mechanics of VIX options to the recent uptick, this episode offers a concrete look at a niche but powerful tool. If you've ever wondered how professional traders think about fear and uncertainty, this is your backstage pass. #VVIX #Volatility #HedgeFunds #VIX #MarketSentiment #OptionsTrading #InstitutionalInvesting #AlternativeInvestments #Finance #Macro #TradingStrategies #RiskManagement #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #MarketSignals #VolatilityTrading #Derivatives #LucasAndLuna Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
On this episode, Lucas and Luna dive into the rising volatility-of-volatility index, the VVIX, which has climbed over six percent this week even as the VIX itself sits near fifteen. They explain why a jump in options-on-options pricing can signal stress beneath a calm surface, and how some hedge funds are using it to hedge their hedges. Drawing on examples from recent market moves and the wisdom of traders like Stanley Druckenmiller, they discuss what this disconnect means for positioning into the late summer. Plus, a listener question about whether retail investors should pay attention to this obscure metric, and how the Fed's steady rates fit into the picture. A practical, plain-English breakdown of a niche but powerful signal. #VVIX #Volatility #HedgeFunds #Options #VolOfVol #MarketSignals #StanleyDruckenmiller #FederalReserve #Investing #Finance #Business #Podcast #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #AlternativeInvestments #InstitutionalInvesting #TradingStrategies #RiskManagement Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
