Episode #291
Lydia of Thyatira: Every Color at the Table
Harmonia begins at a stream near ancient Philippi, where pilgrims from Lagos, Seoul, Bucharest, and So Paulo step into the same cold water, and remembers when only a handful of women prayed on that bank. Among them was her friend Lydia, a merchant from Thyatira who sold purple dye in a proud Roman colony and ran her own household in a foreign city. When travelers arrived with a new message, Lydia listened, was baptized, and insisted they stay at her home. Through the story of an enslaved girl whose voice was valued but never her, and a Roman jailer who washed the wounds of his prisoners, Harmonia shows the crossroads of Philippi and the house where rank at the door did not decide your seat at the table. The episode reflects on how diversity has become the water we swim in, and how unity is still built one open door at a time.
