THE FORGOTTEN HIGHWAY TO THE ISLES OF GOLD. Episode 1: The Wind That Built Asia
https://youtu.be/7VtJkihfNtA What if the geography behind Marco Polo’s Zipangu has been interpreted without first reconstructing the maritime world in which sailors actually traveled? The Forgotten Highway to the Isles of Gold begins a source-driven investigation into the winds, currents, trade routes, maps, coordinates, resources, and historical records that shaped navigation between China, Southeast Asia, the Philippines, and Japan. Rather than beginning with the conventional identification of Zipangu and working backward, this series starts with the physical and documentary evidence: medieval Muslim mariners, Chinese trade records, monsoon navigation, archaeological shipwrecks, historical routes to Japan, early maps, Pigafetta, Magellan, and Marco Polo himself. The central question is simple: If we remove the modern place-names and follow the ships, where does the evidence lead? This series accompanies the research presented in The Age of Exploration: Primary Sources and the Correction of Global Geography. Follow the source. Follow the wind. Follow the ship. And test the map. Sources are on-screen. Book coming soon. Yah Bless Support the show
