The Fisherman’s “Next Cast” Weekly Podcast
August 20th 2026 New England Video Fishing Forecast with Dave Anderson
Something changed this week; the average temp slipped a bit, the new moon passed, and suddenly the fish seem to be giving us a fall preview. Striper action has caught fire north of the Cape with some seriously big fish in the mix from Maine to Boston and beyond. While the continued mackerel influx is mixing stripers and bonito in ferocious feeds, with a side of dolphins, in and around Narragansett Bay. At the same time, we’ve seen a strong push of rec-size bluefin feeding south of Block and there are some confirmed fish moving in tighter now, as well. Bottom fishers are crushing tog, sea bass and scup throughout southern New England and we’re seeing more and more bluefish filing into Long Island Sound, with just over a week until the WICC Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth takes over Long Island Sound. The stage is setting itself, and now’s your chance to get in on Act 1, Scene 1; don’t miss it!
