The Divine Purpose of Work
Let God Restore Your Inner Life - Devotional (Sunday Edition)
Let God Restore Your Inner Life Scripture “He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” Psalm 23:3. Devotional Your body is not the only part of you that becomes tired. Your heart can become tired too. A demanding week can leave you emotionally drained. Difficult people can wear down your patience. Disappointment can quietly discourage you. Constant decision-making can exhaust your mind. Even success can leave you depleted when you've been operating at an unsustainable pace. Sunday provides more than an opportunity to stop working. It provides an opportunity to allow God to restore what the week has depleted. David described God as the Shepherd who “refreshes my soul.” That is a beautiful picture of what God desires to do within you. He restores perspective where worry has distorted it. He restores peace where pressure has disrupted it. He restores gratitude where disappointment has overshadowed it. He restores compassion where difficult relationships have hardened it. He restores hope where circumstances have discouraged it. You do not need to manufacture this renewal yourself. Your role is to come honestly before the Shepherd and allow Him to care for your soul. Before thinking about everything you need to accomplish next week, spend time considering what God may need to restore within you. Perhaps you need renewed patience. Maybe you need courage for a difficult situation. Perhaps you simply need to remember that God is near and that your life does not depend upon your ability to manage everything perfectly. Let today be more than a pause between workweeks. Let it become a place of restoration. Then tomorrow, return to your responsibilities not merely physically rested, but spiritually renewed—with a heart prepared to reflect Christ in whatever the week brings. Reflection Questions What part of my inner life feels most depleted right now? What has been occupying my thoughts when my mind should be at rest? Where do I most need God to restore my peace, joy, hope, or perspective? What can I change this coming week to better guard the condition of my heart? Action Step Set aside at least fifteen quiet minutes today without work, screens, or distractions. Read Psalm 23 slowly. As you do, ask God what area of your soul needs His restoration most. Spend the remaining time simply resting in His presence. Prayer Lord, thank You for caring not only about what I accomplish but also about the condition of my soul. You know where this past week has left me tired, discouraged, anxious, or depleted. Restore me today. Renew my peace, strengthen my faith, soften anything that has become hardened, and refill what has been emptied. As I prepare for another week, help me guard my heart and live from the strength and renewal that come from abiding in You. Amen. www.TheDivinePurposeOfWork.com Copyright 2025 Workplace Ministries, Inc.
