The BIG Detecting show
The Staffordshire Hoard Episode 3: A Treasure for the Nation
In the final part of our Staffordshire Hoard series, we follow the remarkable journey of the treasure after its discovery. From the Treasure Act and the record-breaking fundraising campaign to the painstaking conservation of thousands of fragile fragments, we explore how one detectorist's find became one of Britain's greatest archaeological treasures. We'll discover how experts reconstructed shattered weapons, uncovered new clues about Anglo-Saxon craftsmanship and warfare, and why many of the hoard's biggest mysteries—especially why it was buried—remain unsolved. Finally, we'll look at where the Staffordshire Hoard can be seen today and reflect on the lasting legacy of a discovery that transformed our understanding of early medieval England.
