Lucas and Luna run the numbers on running a marketing agency that doesn't just survive but commands premium fees. Each episode examines a single operational lever — pricing methodology, client churn rate benchmarks, talent retention costs, or the economics of retainer vs. project billing — using real agency financials and named case studies (DDB's pivot to performance models, Ogilvy's proprietary creative scoring system, The Hoth's scalable fulfillment). Lucas, a former agency strategist for independent shops, interrogates the math behind the P&L; Luna, a client-side marketer turned fractional CMO, pushes back with the buyer's perspective: what actually justifies a $50k monthly retainer? Together they decode why agencies with average growth rates of 12% still fail at 18 months, how to structure a creative department so you're not selling hours, and why the biggest agencies are quietly buying media placements at scale. How Agencies Can Use Data to Avoid Over-Servicing Clients
Aug 21, 202610 minS4
In this episode of The Agency Owner Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore how marketing agencies can use data to detect and prevent over-servicing—the silent profit killer that happens when you give away hours, scope, and effort without extra pay. They dive into a real-world example: a mid-sized digital agency that noticed its most 'loyal' clients were actually the least profitable, thanks to unbilled hours hiding in project management software. Lucas breaks down the key metrics to track—like hours per deliverable, scope creep ratio, and utilization rate—and shares a simple weekly dashboard that can surface over-servicing before it spirals. Luna challenges the 'client is always right' mindset, and they discuss how to have honest conversations with clients about scope boundaries without damaging relationships. If you've ever felt like you're working harder for less money, this episode is for you. Tune in for practical data-driven strategies to protect your agency's margins. #AgencyOwner #MarketingAgencies #OverServicing #ClientProfitability #DataDrivenAgency #ScopeCreep #AgencyProfitability #UtilizationRate #ClientOnboarding #RetainerPricing #AgencyOperations #ProjectManagement #BusinessPodcast #MarketingPodcast #FexingoBusiness #AgencyGrowth #ClientRetention #DataAnalytics Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Agencies Use Churn Data to Spot Cross-Sell Signals
Aug 20, 20268 minS4
In this episode of The Agency Owner Podcast, Lucas and Luna dig into a specific case: a mid-sized marketing agency that used churn data — not to predict who was leaving, but to identify which clients were primed for cross-sell and upsell opportunities. They walk through how the agency segmented its client base using engagement metrics like meeting attendance, email open rates, and scope-creep history, and how that revealed a small group of clients who were clearly over-engaged but under-billed. The hosts break down the exact signals that indicated readiness to buy more, how the agency approached those clients with a productized offer, and the surprising result: a 12% increase in average retainer value within one quarter. Lucas and Luna also connect this to broader lessons about using data to deepen relationships rather than just manage risk. If you run an agency and you've ever wondered which of your clients are quietly asking for more, this episode gives you a practical framework to find them. #ChurnData #CrossSell #Upsell #AgencyGrowth #ClientRetention #DataDrivenMarketing #ServiceBusiness #MarketingAgency #ClientSuccess #RevenueGrowth #RetainerValue #EngagementMetrics #ScopeCreep #ProductizedOffer #ClientSegmentation #BusinessGrowth #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Agencies Use Client Churn Data to Build Stronger Pitches
Aug 19, 20269 minS4
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore a fresh angle for agencies: using client churn data not just for retention, but as a powerful tool to craft more compelling new business pitches. They dig into a real example of a mid-sized agency that analyzed its lost clients and discovered a pattern: the most profitable retained clients came from a specific industry niche. By tailoring their pitch to speak directly to that niche's pain points, the agency cut its sales cycle from 90 days to 45 and boosted its win rate by 25 percent. Lucas breaks down the three-step framework: identify the churn pattern, map it to your ideal client profile, then weave that insight into your pitch deck's narrative. Luna adds a practical tip on using churn data to preempt common objections during pitches. The conversation also touches on how to keep the data fresh and avoid over-indexing on a single churn event. Listeners walk away with a concrete method to turn past losses into future wins. #ClientChurnData #AgencyPitching #NewBusiness #MarketingAgency #WinRate #IdealClientProfile #PitchDeck #SalesCycle #DataDrivenMarketing #AgencyGrowth #ClientRetention #Marketing #BusinessDevelopment #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #AgencyOwnerPodcast #DataAnalytics #PitchStrategy Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Agencies Can Turn Churn Data Into Their Best New Business Tool
Aug 18, 20269 minS4
In this episode of The Agency Owner Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore a surprising use for client churn data: as a growth engine for new business development. Instead of treating churn as a post-mortem, they discuss how agencies can analyze patterns in client departures to sharpen their pitch, target better-fit prospects, and even craft offers that preempt the reasons clients leave. Lucas shares a concrete framework for mining churn reasons and turning them into pitch language, while Luna challenges him on the risks of over-indexing on a few loud exits. They also touch on a real case: a mid-sized agency that cut its pitch-to-win time by 30 percent after aligning its value prop with the top three churn drivers. If you've ever wondered why your agency keeps losing clients — or winning the wrong ones — this episode offers a practical path to turn that pain into your sharpest pitch. #ChurnData #AgencyGrowth #NewBusiness #ClientRetention #PitchStrategy #MarketingAgency #DataDriven #BusinessDevelopment #AgencyOwner #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #MarketingPodcast #ClientAcquisition #ValueProposition #AgencyLife #ClientSuccess #RevenueGrowth #AgencyManagement Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Agencies Can Use Churn Data to Build Better Client Portfolios
Aug 17, 20269 minS4
In this episode of The Agency Owner Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore how churn data can help agencies identify the types of clients who stay longest and grow most. They dig into a real case: a mid-sized digital agency that analyzed five years of churn data to discover that clients in the healthcare niche with a specific service mix had a retention rate of 92 percent after two years, compared to 61 percent for e-commerce clients. The agency used these insights to reshape its client portfolio, prioritizing healthcare and adjusting its service offerings. Lucas and Luna break down the methodology—how to segment churn data by industry, service line, and client size—and discuss the trade-offs of specialization. They also share practical steps for any agency to start using its own churn data to predict client lifetime value and steer new business toward more profitable, longer-lasting relationships. This episode offers a data-driven approach to client selection that goes beyond gut instinct, giving agency owners a concrete framework to build a more stable and profitable client roster. #ChurnData #ClientRetention #AgencyGrowth #MarketingAgency #ClientPortfolio #DataDriven #BusinessStrategy #ClientLifetimeValue #NicheMarketing #HealthcareMarketing #EcommerceAgency #RetentionStrategy #AgencyOwner #Marketing #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Podcast #AgencyTips Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
