Episode #28
Finding Your Place in the Stock Show Industry with Avery Oliver
Today on the “Stock Show Sisters” podcast, Riki Nardiello interviews Avery Oliver, livestock show coordinator for RodeoAustin, about her path from growing up in Sealy, Texas with ag-teacher parents to competing in FFA, judging livestock at Blinn and Texas Tech (earning All-American honors), and entering the stock show industry. Avery and Riki discuss what makes the stock show community unique, why there’s a place for everyone (including volunteers and spectators), and how relationships and networking often happen organically, including a brief introduction that helped Avery reach her RodeoAustin role. Avery highlights the value of internships for skills, perspective, mentors, gratitude, and career discovery, and explains how livestock judging builds leadership, coachability, quick decision-making, and public speaking. She describes her varied responsibilities at Rodeo Austin, the scale of volunteers and vendors required, and an upcoming 2027 addition of showmanship for junior breeding shows. Avery also shares relationship advice, faith-centered mindset, and encouragement to “run your race.” This podcast is made possible because of Ranch House Designs.
