Along the way, they meet Farmer Sam, who challenges them to track down five hidden wooden animal markers, and a new friend named Mia, who joins the hunt with her dad. Between corn jokes, pumpkin patches, and the smell of kettle corn drifting through the rows, the group gets separated, and Peter and his mom find themselves turned around in the tall stalks with no clear way out. That's when Gracie's famous nose comes to the rescue. Sniffing out the scent of the kettle corn stand, she leads Peter and his mom straight back to the middle of the maze, where they find the last hidden marker, ring the big brass bell, and earn their Corn Maze Champion badges. Shelly the Sea Turtle, piloting her own submarine named Pearl Dream, has found a young harbour seal pup tangled in a ghost trap, an old crab trap lost long ago that is still catching creatures on the sea floor. Together, the crews of the Mellow Submarine and Pearl Dream cross the Strait of Georgia toward Lasqueti Island to help. Along the way, Captain Dave shares what makes harbour seals so remarkable, and talks with Larry about the Coast Salish Guardian programs that watch over the Salish Sea. When they reach the tangled pup, it takes teamwork, to free him safely and reunite him with his mother. Along the way, Marina teaches the crew about kelp forest ecology - how sea otters keep the balance by eating urchins, how kelp holds onto rocks with a “holdfast” instead of roots, and how every creature, from rockfish to seahorses, has its own job to do. When the crew discovers a tangle of old fishing net drifting into Marina’s anemone garden, Captain Dave and Larry work together with Marina to free it and carry it safely to shore.
