Episode #23
When The Battles Finally End
For the last couple of years it has felt like there has always been another battle to fight. Redundancy. Grief. Leaving the UK. My dad's estate. Complaints with British Gas and Scottish Power. An ongoing insurance dispute. One by one they've occupied my thoughts, until recently I realised something unexpected. Most of them are finally coming to an end. This week I talk about what happens when those problems slowly disappear. What fills the space once your identity is no longer tied to work, firefighting or constantly solving the next crisis? We explore purpose after corporate life, why I don't want YouTube to become another job, and how Yvonne and I are settling into a rhythm that finally feels calmer than anything we've experienced in years. There's also a reflection on living through quieter seasons, adapting to different countries, finding new routines, and accepting that not every day needs to be optimised. Sometimes maintaining is enough. And perhaps the biggest lesson of all is learning that once the battles are over, you have to be careful not to replace them with new ones. The episode centres on the relief of leaving constant firefighting behind, while asking what gives life meaning when there is no longer a battle to win becomes the question that shapes the next chapter.
