S2EP2: Can Christians Drink, Get Tattoos & Listen to Secular Music?
Host: Pastor Jason Britt Guests: CJ Moneke & Chevas Phillips Podcast Description: What’s the difference between holy living, wisdom, and legalism? In this episode of Say That Again with Pastor Jason, Jason, CJ, and Chevas tackle some of the questions Christians often ask: Can I drink? Can I get a tattoo? What about the music I listen to? What shows can I watch? How do I know if something is actually sinful - or simply a matter of wisdom? The conversation explores how easily personal convictions can become universal rules and why following Jesus isn’t about walking the closest possible line to sin. Instead, we’re called to keep our eyes on Jesus, walk in wisdom, listen to the Holy Spirit, and recognize that every believer is in a different stage of the sanctification process. Whether you’ve been hurt by legalism, struggled with gray areas, or simply want to grow in wisdom, this episode offers a freeing reminder: wisdom isn’t about knowing everything. It’s about making decisions that honor Jesus. In this episode, we cover: Legalism takes our eyes off Jesus and places them on rules, behaviors, or personal convictions. There’s a difference between clear biblical truth and personal conviction. Unique convictions should not automatically become universal principles. Holiness means being set apart because of Jesus - not being better than others. Wisdom is about decision-making, not intelligence. The right question in many gray areas isn’t simply, “Can I do this?” but “Is this the wisest thing for me?” Your story, struggles, season of life, and position can all influence what wise living looks like. Sanctification is a process - forgiveness happens in a moment, but change happens over a lifetime. We can’t manufacture life change or microwave discipleship. We have to trust the Holy Spirit’s work in people. Surrounding yourself with trusted voices who want God’s best for you is essential for spiritual growth. Everyone is in a different place in their journey, so we should lead with grace, truth, encouragement, and patience. Ultimately, wisdom has a name: Jesus.
