Divorce Before Retirement – Redesigning What Comes Next
Sep 21, 202616 minS1
Divorce can turn life upside down. When it happens close to retirement, it can also leave you wondering: what happens to the future I thought I was planning for? In Episode 16 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan, Jenny Brown is joined by JBS advisers Warren Hanna and Kaitlin Grozdanovski to explore what happens when one retirement plan suddenly becomes two. Drawing on real client experiences, they discuss why it's so important to pause, understand your new financial position and avoid making rushed decisions while emotions are running high. They also look at practical areas that can easily be overlooked, including superannuation, beneficiary nominations, insurance, estate planning, and what your retirement might now look like. But this episode is about more than the numbers. It's also about rebuilding confidence, rethinking your lifestyle and recognising that while divorce may change the plan, it doesn't necessarily mean the retirement you hoped for is out of reach. Tune in for a timely and practical conversation about finding clarity, making thoughtful decisions and redesigning what comes next. ✨ Because thriving should be fun… and naps should be epic. // Connect with JBS Financial // LinkedIn | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube Whilst all care has been taken in the preparation of this material, no warranty is given in respect of the information provided and accordingly JBS Financial Strategists Pty Ltd, an Australian Financial Services License Holder (N 486674), nor its related entities, employees or agents shall be liable on any ground whatsoever with respect to decisions or actions taken as a result of you acting upon such information.
Here's the story… welcome to our very own JBS Brady Bunch. For anyone old enough to remember The Brady Bunch, Episode 15 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan is the JBS version: a whole bunch of personalities, different strengths and plenty of laughs along the way. Jenny Brown is joined by Warren, Peter, Kaitlin, Daniel and Sharyn for a fun, behind-the-scenes introduction to some of the people who make up the JBS team. So, what's everyone's superpower? From Warren's ability to play devil's advocate and Peter's calm nature, to Kaitlin breaking complex problems into manageable steps, Daniel turning financial anxiety into confidence, and Sharon bringing calm to complexity, everyone brings something different to the table. But this episode isn't really about superpowers. It's about people. The team share what they love about their work, the client moments that stay with them and why getting to know the person behind the numbers matters so much. Because while everyone at JBS has their own strengths, it's how those strengths come together that really makes the difference. Meet the team, discover their superpowers and find out why they genuinely love what they do.
Will my money last? What if my health changes? What happens if my partner isn't here? And if life throws us a curveball… will our retirement plan cope? These are the questions that don't always get said out loud. In Episode 14 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan, Jenny Brown is joined by JBS Financial Strategists business partners Warren Hanna and Peter Folk to unpack some of the real worries sitting behind retirement, and they're not all about money. Drawing on conversations they've had with clients over many years, Jenny, Warren and Peter explore what happens when health or aged care suddenly changes the plan. Then there are the things none of us can control: markets, inflation, government policy and whatever other curveballs life decides to throw our way. So, how do you plan for a future you can't predict? You don't need to have every possible scenario figured out. But you can build flexibility into your plan, have some of the important conversations before they're needed and make sure the right people know how to step in if life changes. Perhaps the better question isn't "What could go wrong?" It's "If something changes, will I be okay?" Tune in for a very real conversation about retirement's big "what ifs" and why being prepared can help you spend a little less time worrying about them. ✨ Because thriving should be fun… and naps should be epic. // Connect with JBS Financial // LinkedIn | Facebook | Instagram | YouTube Whilst all care has been taken in the preparation of thismaterial, no warranty is given in respect of the information provided and accordingly JBS Financial Strategists Pty Ltd, an Australian Financial Services License Holder (N 486674), nor its related entities, employees or agents shall be liable on any ground whatsoever with respect to decisions or actions taken as a result of you acting upon such information.
You can talk about aged care in theory. But it's very different when it's your mum, your family and suddenly the decisions are yours to make. Following on from Episode 12, where we explored why planning ahead for ageing and aged care matters, Episode 13 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan brings that conversation to life through one family's experience. Jenny Brown and JBS Financial Strategist aged care advice specialist Kaitlin Mifsud are joined by client Julie Hyde, who openly shares what it was like navigating aged care for her mum alongside her sister, Michelle. Julie talks about the moment they realised things had changed, the emotions that came with trying to do the right thing, and the weight of making important decisions for someone you love. Together, Julie, Jenny and Kaitlin explore the guilt, uncertainty and family dynamics that can accompany aged care, as well as what helped bring greater clarity when everything felt overwhelming. It's an honest and deeply personal conversation, but also a reassuring one. Because you don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is start talking before you're forced to make decisions under pressure. Aged care isn't just about care. It's about love, identity, dignity and protecting the choices of someone you love. And perhaps the most important reminder of all: It's never too early to talk. But it can be too late to wait. ✨ Because thriving should be fun… and naps should be epic. Julie Hyde is one of Australia's most compelling keynote speakers on leadership, courage and self-leadership under pressure. When people hear the words aged care, many assume it's something they'll think about later. The reality is that some of the most important decisions about ageing and aged care are made long before they're ever needed. In Episode 12 of Retirement: The Great Escape Plan, Jenny Brown is joined by JBS Financial Strategists' aged care advice specialists Kaitlin Mifsud and Peter Folk for a practical and reassuring conversation about planning ahead. Together, they explore why preparing early can help you stay in control of your future, protect your independence and make life easier for the people you love. From starting family conversations and appointing trusted decision-makers to understanding care options, costs and the financial implications, they share practical guidance to help you prepare with confidence rather than urgency. Whether you're thinking about your own future or supporting ageing parents, this episode will help you understand why planning for ageing and aged care isn't just about care, it's about protecting your choices, reducing stress and giving your family greater peace of mind. Because the best time to plan is before life makes the decisions for you.
