Joshua 3:1-17 | Step Into the River | Alex Culpepper
What step would you take if you knew God would meet you there? In Joshua 3, Israel stands on the banks of the Jordan River at flood stage with a brand-new leader. The question hanging over them is simple: will God's power still show up with Joshua the way it did with Moses? God's answer comes through a strange command. The priests carrying the ark must step into the rushing water before anything happens. The moment their feet touch the river, the waters rise up in a heap, and all Israel crosses on dry ground. In this message, we see that God's presence and power meet us in obedience. We don't obey to earn His help. He has already promised to be with us, and we begin to see His power at work when we listen to His voice and take the step that won't succeed apart from Him. And the first Joshua points us to the second. Jesus, whose public ministry began in that same Jordan River, stood in the flood of judgment for us so that all who believe in Him can pass from death into life.
