Episode #3
GOP Hits the Self-Destruct Button. Dems Pinky Swear They’re Not Socialists.
Republicans spent the week finding new ways to blow themselves up. Eric Schmitt tried to own Jack Smith and turned himself into the punchline, Senate Republicans stayed an extra week and still went home basically empty-handed, Pete Hegseth took another swing at the military brass, and immigration — once one of the GOP’s strongest political weapons — is suddenly creating a whole new set of problems. Political Rehab is the only show that brings together a Republican strategist and a Democratic insider to strip away the noise and break down what actually matters: the power plays, campaign consequences, and warning signs both parties are watching behind closed doors. Democrats managed to make things weird too. Six incoming progressives have formed “The Bloc” and are already threatening to squeeze Hakeem Jeffries for concessions, while more than 60 centrist Democratic candidates and officeholders signed a pledge declaring, “We are capitalists, not socialists.” Nothing projects confidence quite like having to pinky swear your economic system on the campaign trail. Then we hit The Battlefield, where Trump begins his final campaign push in some very red places, Democrats are borrowing Ronald Reagan to attack Republicans, and the GOP gets what can generously be described as a dead-cat bounce. The numbers improved by a whisper. The larger map remains a much uglier story. And because the machines are supposedly coming for humanity, we asked AI to find something hopeful. It responded with Fat Bear Week, astronauts struggling to poop in space, plastic-collecting bumblebees, gene-edited bananas, talking dogs and cancer-sniffing cats. Sarah Connor can relax. Artificial intelligence may eventually destroy civilization, but first it appears determined to bore us to death. Then SpaceX’s Starship reaches orbit for the first time on its 14th test flight, deploys 26 next-generation Starlink satellites, survives re-entry and splashes down in the Pacific despite an engine problem — another step toward potentially changing the economics of getting into space. It’s PTI meets The Daily Show for politics — fast, sharp, funny, and built for people who want to understand the madness without becoming part of it. In this episode: Donald Trump, Republican Party, 2026 midterms, Eric Schmitt, Jack Smith, Senate Republicans, John Thune, Pete Hegseth, U.S. military, generals and admirals, immigration, ICE, Kristi Noem, Democratic Party, Democratic Socialists of America, DSA, The Bloc, Hakeem Jeffries, socialism, capitalism, Ronald Reagan, Elaine Luria, campaign strategy, swing voters, polling, AI, artificial intelligence, Fat Bear Week, SpaceX, Starship. Questions this episode answers: Why did Republicans spend another week stepping on political landmines? What happened when Eric Schmitt went after Jack Smith? Why is Hegseth cutting military brass? How did immigration become a problem for Republicans? Why are centrist Democrats literally pledging that they are capitalists, not socialists? What is “The Bloc”? And should humanity really fear an AI that thinks Fat Bear Week is breaking news?
