John Collard: From the Jungles of Vietnam to the Woods of Washington
John's story of being injured in Vietnam as a Combat Medic, medically retired, and making it through the many challenges he has faced since is a testament to the value of human connection.Like so many other veterans, John has gone through years of struggle with the VA and the toll of his combat experience that it's a miracle he's alive. It got as bad as sitting with a bottle of whiskey and a loaded .45 caliber pistol, considering whether living was worth it. Luckily for John, a call to a family member kept him from taking his life.Veteran to veteran connection is what John believes can change the course of how veterans deal with these and other challenges.
