My child steals, what do I do?
Finding out your child took something that doesn't belong to them is a terrifying parental milestone. Your internal alarm system screams: "If I don't fix this right now, they will ruin their life!" But biologically, leading with heavy labels like "thief" or "criminal" floods their developing nervous system with intense shame. Shame doesn't teach morality. It just teaches kids to become better liars. If you want your child to grow up with deep, internal integrity, you have to shift from punishment to repair. Validate the temptation (because nice things are tempting to a young brain!), state your family values calmly, and then guide them to return the item. You aren't letting them off the hook. You are scaffolding their courage. Spotify, Apple Podcast — Parents Daily Youtube — Parents Daily by BAMBINI HOUSE
