This week, NEWS.MC TV brings you the latest updates from Monaco, with commemorations, education, the Princely Family, international business, motoring and philanthropy all making the headlines. Monaco marked the 82nd anniversary of its liberation on September the 3rd, commemorating the end of two years of occupation during the Second World War. Vintage military vehicles travelled through the Principality before ceremonies were held at Palace Square, followed by the traditional changing of the guard and a final wreath-laying ceremony at Monaco Cemetery. Monaco also continued its focus on European cooperation as ambassadors and permanent representatives from the Council of Europe’s 46 member states gathered at the Oceanographic Museum following the 1567th Meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies, held in the Principality on September the 3rd. Education was in the spotlight on September the 4th as Prince Albert II visited the newly renovated Albert I High School alongside Minister of State Christophe Mirmand. The year-long transformation includes refurbished classrooms with new furniture, acoustic ceilings and interactive digital equipment, as well as improvements to the cafeteria and playgrounds. The Princely Family travelled to Les Baux-de-Provence on September the 5th, with Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene accompanied by Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella. The visit highlighted the historic links between the village and the Grimaldi dynasty, dating back to the 17th century following the Treaty of Péronne. Young writers took centre stage at the Monaco International Book Fair on September the 6th, where 62 students competed in the 16th High School Students’ Prize. Participants were challenged to develop their reasoning, argumentation and writing skills through essays addressing subjects including the transition out of childhood and the idea of virtual friendship. Monaco’s new school year officially got underway on September the 7th, with 5,652 pupils and 533 teachers returning to state and government-contracted private schools across the Principality. Students of all ages began the new academic year, from Year 9 pupils at Collège Charles III to final-year students and those embarking on university studies. A unique timepiece created by FP Journe for the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation was unveiled in Monaco on September the 7th ahead of a charity auction in Singapore. The fourth collaboration between the watchmaker and the Foundation features a distinctive mauve dial with ancient Chinese numerals and a simple chronograph, an unusual choice for François-Paul Journe. The insurance industry has also been gathering in Monaco, with more than 4,000 insurance and reinsurance professionals attending the sector’s 68th annual international meeting between September the 5th and 9th. Delegates discussed growing risks ranging from natural disasters and geopolitical tensions to cyberattacks, alongside the increasing cost of repairing property and vehicles and providing healthcare. Motoring history was celebrated on September the 8th with the inauguration of a new association dedicated to the legacy of Vincenzo Lancia. The organisation was launched at the Automobile Club de Monaco in the presence of Prince Albert II, with the aim of preserving Lancia’s pioneering spirit, inspiring younger generations and supporting innovative environmental projects. And Monaco joined Norway in mourning the death of King Harald V, as Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene attended his funeral in Oslo on September the 9th.
