Extra Oil Is Required – Be Ready "And while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps." — Matthew 25:5–7 (NKJV) 1. All Ten Had Lamps and Good Intentions • In the parable, all ten virgins looked alike on the surface. They all had the same destination (the wedding feast), they all carried lamps, and they all expected to meet the Bridegroom. • Just because you are a part of a church, serve there, carry your Bible, wear a cross or you have a title does not make you a Christian. • You can sit in the same house, and have the same outward zeal, but outward appearance will never substitute for inner, personal relationship with Christ. 2. There is a Critical Distinction: The "Extra Oil" • The defining difference between the five wise and five foolish virgins wasn't their lamps—it was their provision. • The wise took extra flasks of oil; the foolish only had what was in their lamps. • Oil represents the Holy Spirit and an intimate, uncompromised relationship with God. • You cannot borrow someone else's spiritual depth, or their faith, when midnight strikes. • There are some things in the Kingdom that cannot be transferred: • Character, intercession, brokenness, and intimacy with God cannot be borrowed in a crisis.
