How to fight your (God’s) battles God’s way
Introduction Are you facing huge challenge, a life-threatening situation, an illness a, huge debt, a situation which, humanly speaking looks, impossible or even a trial of your faith and trust in God? Your troubles are an arena for you to see God’s power, His grace manifesting in our lives. It is in our battles that we experience God’s faithfulness. In today’s story, King Jehoshaphat is faced with an impeding invasion by an alliance of three enemy armies. “They are already at Hazazon-tamar.” (This was another name for En-gedi.)”. Terrified, the King turns his face to seek God and ends up fighting and winning the battle through God’s help without shooting an arrow. This story enshrines the message that the Lord fights our battles. Reading 2 Chronicles 20:1-32 (NLT) Fight your (God’s) battles God’s way 1. Choose God above all else, love, honour and serve Him Jehoshaphat feared and had a relationship with God. V 32 Jehoshaphat was a good king, following the ways of his father, Asa. He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight. 2. Make God you default source of Help—seek answers from Him Terrified, Jehoshaphat sought God’s help V 3 Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting. 4 So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord’s help. 3. Rely on Him for strategy—trust Him and don’t lean on methods Jehoshaphat overcame His enemies without shooting an arrow V 22 At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. God will act, He always does! 4. Meanwhile, as you wait on Him, give God a sacrifice of praise. God delights in the praises of His people, even more when they raise Him despite pain or difficulties—Paul and Silas did in jail in Acts 16 Jehoshaphat chose praises amid his moment of trial V 21 “After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang” No matter what battle you are facing, the Lord want to fight your battles. Trust Him, seek Him. He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
