  Introduction Are you facing huge challenge, a life-threatening situation, an illness a, huge debt, a situation which, humanly speaking looks, impossible or even a trial of your faith and trust in God? Your troubles are an arena for you to see God’s power, His grace manifesting in our lives. It is in our battles that we experience God’s faithfulness. In today’s story, King Jehoshaphat is faced with an impeding invasion by an alliance of three enemy armies. “They are already at Hazazon-tamar.” (This was another name for En-gedi.)”. Terrified, the King turns his face to seek God and ends up fighting and winning the battle through God’s help without shooting an arrow. This story enshrines the message that the Lord fights our battles. Reading 2 Chronicles 20:1-32 (NLT) Fight your (God’s) battles God’s way 1. Choose God above all else, love, honour and serve Him Jehoshaphat feared and had a relationship with God. V 32 Jehoshaphat was a good king, following the ways of his father, Asa. He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight. 2. Make God you default source of Help—seek answers from Him Terrified, Jehoshaphat sought God’s help V 3 Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance.   Honouring God Beyond the Letter Today’s reading invites us into a holy and searching reflection. It is one of those passages that can provoke an immediate and honest question: “That does not seem fair,” or even, “God, are You being fair?” Uzzah reaches out to steady the Ark of the Covenant, the sacred symbol of God’s presence, and the holy and righteous God strikes him dead. We read: 1 Chronicles 13:9–11, NLT This moment confronts us with the holiness of God. Yet we must begin where Scripture begins: God cannot be unfair, unjust, or unrighteous, because He is righteous and perfect in all His ways (Deuteronomy 32:4; 2 Samuel 22:31; Psalm 18:30; Matthew 5:48). We may not understand everything God does, and Scripture reminds us that some things remain hidden from us (Deuteronomy 29:29). Still, we submit our questions to His revealed character. From the outset, we affirm that God judged Uzzah justly, as He does in other sobering passages such as Acts 5:1–10, even when His reasons exceed our limited understanding. This passage also guards us from misunderstanding grace. Does God now judge by a different standard after the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ? Some speak of “the time of grace” as though grace means God goes easy on sin. But grace is never a licence for evil; it trains us to renounce ungodliness and live rightly (Titus 2:11–12). Christ did not abolish the Law but fulfilled its purpose: “I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose” (Matthew 5:17; Romans 8:3–4). The God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament. He is the same, and He does not change. This matters devotionally because it shapes how we walk with God our Father. We must learn to distinguish between law and principle . A law is a specific and binding command that defines what must be done. A principle is the underlying truth that guides faithful obedience across changing circumstances. In traffic terms, the law may say, “The speed limit is 60 km/h.” The principle says, “Drive safely according to the conditions.” The law gives a boundary; the principle requires wisdom. Mature obedience receives both. This distinction helps us consider tithes, for example (Malachi 3:10), a subject that remains contentious. Some reject tithing because they see it only as part of the Old Testament Law. Others note that tithing appears before the Law, as with Abraham and Jacob (Genesis 14:18–20; Genesis 28:22). Jesus’ words are instructive: “You are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things” (Matthew 23:23). Jesus does not condemn tithing itself; He condemns a legalistic practice that neglects the deeper principle of justice, mercy, and faith. Therefore, the devotional call is clear: do not reduce obedience to outward compliance. Honour the command but also seek the heart of God behind it. Prayer: Father, teach me to honour Your holiness without drawing back from Your love. Keep me from treating grace lightly or reducing obedience to outward form. Give me wisdom to discern both Your commands and the principles of Your heart, so that my life may please You in reverence, faith, justice, mercy, and love. Amen! Summary God’s holiness must shape how we understand His actions, even when His judgments trouble us. Grace does not lessen God’s righteousness; it trains us to live faithfully before Him. True obedience honours both God’s command and the principle of His heart behind it. Today’s Application Today, pause before God with reverence and trust. Bring Him your questions, but do not allow unanswered questions to weaken your confidence in His character. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you where your obedience has become merely outward and choose one practical way to honour not only God’s command, but also the heart behind it. Reflection Questions 1. Where might I be tempted to question God’s ways before submitting my questions to His revealed character? 2. How have I understood grace: as permission to relax obedience, or as power to live rightly before God? 3. In what area of my life is God calling me to honour both His command and the heart behind it? Conclusion May this reflection lead us not into fear that draws back, but into reverence that draws near.   For many, Easter is a time for reflection on the agony and suffering of Christ, for others it is a part of religious tradition with many symbols, some completely unrelated to the real meaning of events in the Bible. Through Exodus 12, we are reminded how the Passover is a foreshadowing of a present reality, so that Easter, Pesach in Hebrew is not just a memorial of suffering but a reminder of the complete work of Christ. In Exodus 12:28-30 we see how in the definitive moment of departure, Israelites obey the divine instructions and in the dark of the night, the grip of Egypt is powerfully broken. Today, therefore, this Good Friday, we are being reminded that Pesach is not just tradition but a declaration of our new reality in Christ. This analysis examines three interconnected motifs depicted through symbols in Passover, the fourth point a call to action, but first the reading. Instruction: Exodus 12:21-23 Exodus 12: 21 Then Moses called all the elders of Israel together and said to them, “Go, pick out a lamb or young goat for each of your families, and slaughter the Passover animal. 22 Drain the blood into a basin. Then take a bundle of hyssop branches and dip it into the blood. Brush the hyssop across the top and sides of the doorframes of your houses. And no one may go out through the door until morning. 23 For the Lord will pass through the land to strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the Lord will pass over your home. He will not permit his death angel to enter your house and strike you down. Event: Exodus 12:29-30 29 And that night at midnight, the Lord struck down all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn son of the prisoner in the dungeon. The Lamb representing “The Lamb of God”, the ultimate sacrifice —1 Cor5:7 Exodus 12:3 Announce to the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month each family must choose a lamb or a young goat for a sacrifice… 5 The animal you select must be a one-year-old male, either a sheep or a goat, with no defects. In the 10th plague, the sacrifice of a lamb is the substitute, a life given for the salvation of the community of Israelites The lamb foreshadows Jesus the perfect “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29) The lamb represents the efficacy of the sacrifice of Christ for forgiveness and help in all our struggles Jesus wasn’t just a victim of Roman execution He was the sacrificial lamb to enable us “to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires” (2 Peter 1:4) Paul sums this up in his lament about the powerlessness of the law and struggles with human nature, with a powerful resolution in the end, “Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ the Lamb of God]—our Lord 2. Blood represents the ultimate protection/cover—"under the blood” The blood applied on the doorposts created a boundary that death could not cross.“But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt." — Exodus 12:13. The "Blood of the Lamb" is our spiritual protection. 3.   “YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN”: THE POWER OF PRAYER

  Today we go deeper on the ‘Power of Prayer’. We will look at prayer in the context of Kingdom Authority and Stewardship. Reading Colossians 1:13 (AMPC) [The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, Matthew 6:10 (KJV) Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. In Colossians Paul uses the word “transfer” (from the Greek methistēmi ) which implies more than just a change of heart; it describes a complete change of jurisdiction , identity , and citizenship . That is what happened when you and I believed. Through salvation, we have been transferred from the dominion and tyranny of the dark world of evil to citizenship of the Kingdom of Heaven. This is a settled spiritual reality. This verse uses the imagery where a conqueror won a war and physically moved an entire population to a new territory to give them a new life under a new king (e.g. the exile from Israel to Babylon). The word for “power” in “power of darkness” is exousia, which means that the power from which we are translated is delegated as opposed to the “Kingdom” ( basileia ) of Light which speaks of a rightful sovereignty. In Mathew 6, the Lord provides a model for prayer for Kingdom citizens, that’s who we are. In the specific verse, He presents prayer as an appeal for a specific action to take place, an act of “calling down” the reality of the Kingdom of Light into the physical realm. Prayer is not asking God to change His mind but rather asking for His “jurisdiction” to be manifested. Thus, prayer is not just a mechanism for just asking or begging but a powerful declaration and proclamation by which a persons transferred or to the Kingdom of Light, steward and direct the power and authority for the “will” of that Kingdom to displace the “power of darkness” in their immediate environment. Let us remember that at the helm of that Kingdom is Our Father in heaven, the sovereign ruler of heaven and earth! Lord, grant me the revelation and knowledge of the power of prayer; teach me to pray more effectively each day. Melphon Mayaka
