Episode #29
John Tauler (1294-1361) “Giving God Good Measure”
God is astonishingly generous with us. But what measure are we giving Him in return? In this sermon on Luke 6:36 –38, John Tauler takes Christ’s words about “good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over” and turns them into a searching examination of the spiritual life. God pours out His mercy and grace abundantly, yet we can respond with little more than outward observance, shallow devotion, or even judgment of those around us. Tauler points us toward something greater: a life overflowing with interior love. It is charity, he says, that gives life to every other virtue and transforms our relationship with God and neighbour. Humility, repentance, and genuine devotion open the soul to receive, and then return, the overflowing measure God desires.
