Ep 29 | MediaCast: Sapna Desai, CMO of ManipalCigna, on Marketing Health Insurance - a category most people tend to avoid
Send us Fan Mail Eighty-two per cent of urban Indians say they experience stress. One per cent describe their health as poor. Sapna Desai, Chief Marketing Officer of ManipalCigna Health Insurance , calls the gap between those two numbers a stress paradox — and in this episode of MediaCast she explains why a country normalising the thing that is wearing it down is a problem for marketers, not only for doctors. Host Pavan R Chawla , Founder-Editor of MediaBrief.com , takes her through the ManipalCigna India Health Quotient, a YouGov study across 2,600 respondents in 16 cities that measured physical, mental, social, workplace and financial health together. Among its findings: the youngest cohort, aged 25 to 34, scored lowest of all age groups; the financial dimension scored lowest of all dimensions; and two in five people said the pursuit of money is damaging their health. Sapna has spent over two decades building service brands in high-trust categories, across advertising, financial services and telecom. She explains what a standalone health insurer does and how it differs from a general insurer, why she believes a service brand is built at the moment of vulnerability rather than in the advertising, and how research findings become campaigns — including work with Manoj Bajpayee on the true value of health, and regional voices such as Baichung Bhutia in the northeast. IN THIS EPISODE • Four leadership principles, beginning with the idea that expertise has an expiry date • What a standalone health insurer does, and how it differs from a general insurer • ManipalCigna today: around 21 million lives covered, 125 branches, a 96% claim settlement rate • Why a service brand is built at the moment of vulnerability • A ₹1.5 lakh crore industry heading for ₹3 lakh crore by 2030, and the pull of tier 3 and tier 4 markets • The ManipalCigna India Health Quotient, and what it set out to measure • The stress paradox, the 25-34 cohort, and the six-point well-being gap between the insured and the uninsured • The health debt trap • Marketing a category people actively avoid • A practical checklist for the first-time health insurance buyer and more. India might look healthy on the outside, but it's really struggling on the inside: Sapna Desai Listen to, watch, or read the episode post with the complete transcript, on MediaBrief: https://mediabrief.com/manipalcigna-cmo-sapna-desai-on-mediacast/ Complete list of Mediacast and other podcasts on Mediabrief is at https://mediabrief.com We have two podcast series : MediaCast , and MVP - The Master's Voice Podcast ; both, published by MediaBrief.com .
