443. What Does God Say About Self-Control? Grace vs. Striving in Your Weight Loss
Aug 21, 202614 minS1
What if your struggle with food and your weight has less to do with self-control—and more to do with the way you’ve been trying to use it? Maybe you’ve been telling yourself, “I just need more discipline.” “I need more self-control.” “If I were really committed to taking care of my body, I wouldn’t struggle with this.” And so you try harder. You restrict. You push through cravings. You feel guilty when you don’t make the “right” choice. You promise yourself you’ll do better tomorrow. But eventually, you get exhausted. And as Christian women, there’s another layer to this. Because self-control is a good thing. It’s actually a fruit of the Spirit. But what happens when something God intended for our freedom becomes another measuring stick we use to decide whether we’re good enough? Suddenly, taking care of our health isn’t about stewardship—it’s about striving. It’s not about grace—it’s about getting it right. And maybe without even realizing it, you’ve started believing that God is more pleased with you when you eat perfectly, exercise consistently, or have enough discipline to say no to every craving. But is that actually what biblical self-control looks like? Is self-control about white-knuckling your way through every craving? Is it about never overeating, never missing a workout, never eating the foods you’ve labeled “bad,” and always making the perfect choice? Or could biblical self-control be something much deeper? Today, I want to take you back to what God actually says about self-control—and help you understand the difference between grace and striving when it comes to your health, your body, your relationship with food, and your weight-loss goals. Because what if you don’t need to try harder to become the woman God wants you to be? What if you need to learn how to live from the grace He’s already given you? I want you to stick with me today, because I think this conversation could completely change the way you think about self-control. And before we dive in, I also want to personally invite you to my free live workshop on September 2nd at 8 p.m. Eastern, happening on Zoom. We’re going to spend about an hour talking about something I know so many women are struggling with: Why do I keep starting over with my weight-loss goals—and how do I finally break the cycle? If you’re tired of constantly promising yourself that tomorrow will be different, I would love to have you there. Just go to dietditching.com, click on Free Workshop, and get yourself on the list. It’s completely free. So, grab your coffee, settle in, and let’s talk about what biblical self-control really looks like—and what happens when we stop striving and start living from grace.
442. The Hidden Diet Rules Sabotaging Your Weight Loss: How Food Restrictions Keep You Stuck
Aug 17, 202614 minS1
What if the very rules you’re following to lose weight are actually the things keeping you stuck? Think about some of the rules you may have made for yourself: “I don’t eat after 7.” “I can’t have carbs.” “I have to be good Monday through Friday.” “I shouldn’t eat dessert.” “I already messed up, so I might as well keep eating.” “I’ll start over tomorrow.” Sound familiar? And maybe you’ve never even thought of these as diet rules because they’ve become so normal. You’ve followed them for so long that they just feel like the way you’re supposed to eat. But here’s the problem: the more rules you create around food, the more mental space food begins to take up. You spend your day thinking about what you can eat, what you can’t eat, whether you’ve been “good” or “bad,” and whether you’ve already messed up. And eventually, you eat the thing you told yourself you couldn’t have. Then comes the guilt. You tell yourself, “Well, I already blew it.” So you eat more. And tomorrow? You make another rule. Maybe you’ll be stricter. Maybe you’ll cut out more foods. Maybe you’ll start over Monday. And before you know it, you’re right back in the same cycle—restrict, obsess, overeat, feel guilty, and start over. But what if the problem isn’t that you need more discipline? What if the problem is the rules themselves? In today’s episode, we’re going to uncover some of those hidden diet rules you may not even realize you’re following—and how they could be keeping you trapped in the diet mentality and making sustainable weight loss harder than it needs to be. And I want to go even deeper with you on this. On September 2nd at 8 p.m. Eastern, I’m hosting a free live workshop on Zoom where we’ll dive deeper into this cycle of starting over and what it actually takes to break free from it. If you’re tired of constantly feeling like you need to start over, I would love for you to join me. Just head to dietditching.com, click on Free Workshop, and save your spot. Because you don’t need another set of rules. You need a new way of thinking about food, your body, and your health. So let’s get into today’s episode—and uncover the rules that might be keeping you stuck without you even realizing it.
441. Fit Tip Friday: Why All or Nothing Fitness Keeps You Stuck - How Missing One Workout Turns Into Giving Up
Aug 14, 20269 minS1
Ever miss a workout and instantly think, “Well, I blew it”? Maybe you planned to work out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Monday went great, but Wednesday got hectic and you skipped it. Instead of saying, “No big deal, I’ll work out tomorrow,” your mind starts making excuses: “I already missed Wednesday,” “I’m off track,” or “I’ll just start again Monday.” Before you know it, one missed workout turns into four days, a week, or even a month of doing nothing. The real issue isn’t missing the workout—it’s what you tell yourself about it. If you’ve been stuck in the all-or-nothing cycle of being fully “on” or completely “off,” know that this isn’t a fitness problem—it’s a mindset problem. Let’s talk about why all-or-nothing thinking keeps you stuck and how to finally break free from it. If you find yourself saying, "This is me", then my Free Workshop is for YOU! I want to invite you in and let's go deeper. Email me at taraj@dietditching.com and get on the list!
440. Why You Keep Starting Over with Your Weight Loss Goals (And How to Break the Cycle)
Aug 10, 202612 minS1
Have you ever told yourself, "This time is going to be different"? You start Monday motivated. You clean out the pantry, make a meal plan, promise yourself you're going to workout every day - and for a little while, things feel good. Until life happens. You miss a workout. You eat something you didn't plan to eat. You have a stressful day. You step on the scale and you don't like what you see. And suddenly, you find yourself saying those familiar words: "I'll start again Monday" If you've been caught up in this cycle for years, I want you to hear this: You don't need another Monday. You need to understand why you keep starting over. Because the problem may not be your lack of discipline, your willpower, or even your food choices. There may be something much deeper keeping you stuck. And that's exactly what we're going to talk about today. If this is where you find yourself, needing to finally stop the starting over, I want to invite you to join me for my Free Workshop coming September 2. We'll be diving deeper together to help equip you to FINALLY break this cycle! Email me at taraj@dietditching.com for more information!
439. Faith Filled Friday: Become the Woman God Created You to Be (Without Making Weight Loss You're Identity)
Aug 7, 202611 minS1
What if the woman you've been striving so hard to become...is the woman God already says you are? Think about that for a second. So many women live with the belief, "I'll be more confident when I lose the weight." Or, "I'll finally start serving once I feel comfortable in my body." Maybe you've even told yourself, "When I reach my goal weight, then I'll believe I'm enough." But what if those thoughts have been keeping you stuck? The truth is, the enemy loves to convince us that our identity is always one achievement away. One smaller clothing size. One lower number on the scale. One more accomplishment. Because as long as we're chasing a future version of ourselves, we're distracted from living in the identity God has already given us. Friend, your worth was never something you had to earn. Your confidence doesn't come from your body—it comes from Christ. Your purpose isn't waiting for you at your goal weight. And your calling has never depended on fitting into your old jeans. Today, we're talking about what it really means to become the woman God created you to be—not someday, not after you lose 20 pounds, but right now. Because when you begin living from your God-given identity instead of striving to earn it, everything changes...including the way you approach your health. Before we dive in, I want to invite you to something special. On September 2nd, I'm hosting a FREE live workshop on Zoom where we'll talk about how to finally break free from the exhausting start-over cycle with food and weight loss. If you're tired of starting over every Monday, every month, or every season, this workshop is for you. You'll learn practical, faith-based strategies to help you build lasting freedom instead of relying on willpower. And if you're looking for encouragement throughout the week, come join our free Facebook community, Lose Weight, Live Free. It's a place where women encourage one another, grow in their faith, and pursue healthy living without obsession. Finally, if you're ready for personalized support and accountability, I'd love to walk alongside you through my Ditch the Diet one-on-one coaching program. You can reach me anytime at taraj@dietditching.com . Now, let's dive into today's episode.
