Immigration is often discussed as a divisive political issue, but the new Independent feature QUEEN(S) brings the conversation down to just one person’s story and circumstances. Alix Kendall chats with Chi Hua Lee-Secci who plays “Sisi,” an undocumented Chinese woman trying to build an ordinary life in Queens, and actor Bill Engst who plays a sympathetic widower helping Sisi in her journey. The two share personal stories during filming of Queen(s), and what they hope people will take away from the film. QUEEN(S) will make its World Premiere September 17 2026 at the historic Riverview Theater in Minneapolis. The film’s creators, cast and producers are honoring the Twin Cities for its 2026 immigration struggles, and the courage shown by its citizens. The premiere screening of QUEEN(S) also launches what the filmmakers call the “Civic Cinema” initiative, connecting stories reflected on screen with organizations confronting those realities every day: 50% of the producers’ share of box-office revenue will be donated to partner organizations. After the Riverview premiere, QUEEN(S) begins a week-long run at Emagine Willow Creek movie theater September 18, with Civic Cinema programming continuing throughout the engagement -- and expanding later to additional cities across the United States.
