學英文不用背單字 EP-32 CEFR B1 Overcoming the Fear of Speaking English
Podcast Title: Overcoming the Fear of Speaking English Host: Duncan Topic: Language Anxiety, Courage, and Being a Role Model for Kids. Focus: Expressing fear, advice structures (you should, the best way to), and mindset. [Script] "Hi students! Today I want to share a story about a conversation I had with a mother recently. She is a wonderful mom, and her English is actually quite good! She studies grammar and uses learning apps on her phone every single day. But she came to me with a problem. She said, 'Teacher, whenever I see a foreigner or try to speak English in real life, my mind goes completely blank. I freeze up!' I listened to her, and I told her something very honest. I said, 'Language apps are great! They can help you build your vocabulary by 10% or 20%. But apps will never teach you to be brave. The only true way to improve your English... is to open your mouth and speak!' I told her that making mistakes is completely normal. Foreigners don't care if your grammar isn't 100% perfect. They just want to communicate with you! I advised her to take a trip up to Taipei or visit tourist spots where she can practice ordering coffee or asking for directions in English. Most importantly, I told her: 'Don't teach your children to be afraid.' Kids watch everything their parents do. If a child sees their mom hide or stay silent when someone speaks English, the child learns that English is something scary. But if they see their mom smile, try her best, and laugh off mistakes, the child learns that English is just a fun tool for connecting with the world. So, if you are listening today and you feel nervous about speaking English: stop waiting for perfection. Be brave, make mistakes, and keep talking!"
