Episode #61
The Future of Work: Technology Changed. Our Biology Didn’t.
AI and tech can help us finish work faster. So why do we still end the day feeling mentally exhausted? I’ve been noticing something in my own work: I’m more productive, but the gaps between projects have gotten smaller. I shift gears faster, stay mentally engaged longer, and often use the time technology saves me to simply do more. In this episode, I explore what that may be doing to our mental energy—and why the natural pauses between demanding tasks matter more than they appear to. We’ll look at what happens in the brain when we step away from focused work, why pauses can support both processing and recovery, and how AI may be changing the rhythm of our work even as it makes us more efficient. I’ll also share one question I’ve started asking when I feel overloaded: What is my brain managing right now? Mental energy is one of our most valuable resources. Becoming more deliberate about where we spend it may matter more than ever. Selected References • NeuroLeadership Institute — cognitive load and executive function research • Albulescu, P. et al.
