Keep Shining with Stuart MacMillan — Episode with Kyle Kimbro
Welcome to The Lighthouse Collective podcast series Keep Shining with Stuart MacMillan. In this episode, Stuart sits down with entrepreneur, leader, and mentor Kyle Kimbro to talk about learning, mentorship, growth, and the legacy we leave in others. Kyle shares why learning and mentorship should be a lifestyle, the difference between simply consuming information and actually applying what we learn, and how being willing to unlearn, grow, and step into discomfort can transform our lives and leadership. Together, they explore the importance of investing in people, multiplying leaders, living authentically, and leaving a legacy that continues long after we are gone. What you will hear: Why learning, mentorship, and legacy should be treated as a lifestyle and a daily posture. The difference between simply gaining information and actually applying and being transformed by what we learn. Why Kyle believes we should listen with the mindset of, “How can I teach what I’m being told right now?” How growth requires us to unlearn old perspectives and remain open to learning, change, and new ideas. Kyle’s story of a successful entrepreneur who sat down with him and said, “I don’t, but educate me,” demonstrating the humility and hunger required to keep learning. A difficult business lesson that taught Kyle the importance of being present, taking care of what is in front of us, and treating the little things as big things. The qualities Kyle looks for in someone he can mentor: being hungry, coachable, willing to take notes, ask questions, and put what they learn into action. How stepping into uncomfortable situations helps people grow, expand their confidence, and become the person they are capable of becoming. Why authenticity matters in leadership and why people lose trust when leaders do not live consistently with what they say. The difference between an inheritance and a legacy, and why a legacy is what we leave in someone. How faith, prayer, mentorship, and the example of Kyle’s grandfather have shaped his life and the legacy he hopes to carry forward. Memorable lines: "An inheritance is something that you leave to someone. A legacy is something that you leave in someone." "You gotta be hungry and you gotta be coachable. Period."
