25 Years After 9/11: Service, Solidarity & the Journey Home
On this week’s episode of Just Love, as we commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the events of September 11th, 2001, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan has a conversation about the effective and extensive multi-year work of the human service community here in New York that followed the attacks and the destruction of the World Trade Center with Mary Ellen Ros, who is the retired Director of Hudson Valley Services and Disaster Case Management for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, and who took the lead in coordinating these efforts through the 9/11 United Services Group, a coalition of 17 human services agencies and federations. Next, Monsignor Sullivan continues the conversation Scott Cooper, who is the Vice President of Mission at Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington in Spokane, Washington State, who shares his experience of attending his first Catholic Charities USA Annual Gathering in Newark back in early September 2001, attending the CCUSA Gala on Ellis Island in the shadow of the World Trade Center, on Saturday, September 8th, and his harrowing week-long trip back to Washington State that began on a plane on the tarmac on the morning of September 11th on the way home, his plane grounded , and which culminated in his journey across county – spending time and meeting people who helped one another on their journeys home in the following days.
