Dark Night of the Soul: The Initiation Every Woman Needs - An Interview with Monica Rodgers of the Revelation Project
In this episode of Intuitive Insights, Meghan chats with special guest Monica Rogers, a women's empowerment coach and founder of The Revelation Project Monica Rodgers is a coach, podcaster, and creative guide who empowers women to break free from limiting beliefs and reclaim their authenticity. Through storytelling, spiritual practice, and intentional creativity™, she helps women awaken to their inner truth, embrace self-love, and lead with purpose. A former PR executive and entrepreneur, Monica now dedicates her life to creating spaces where women can be seen, heard, and fulfilled. The Dark Night of the Soul — Monica shares her 2008 breakdown where, despite having the "perfect life" on paper (house, husband, kids), she was deeply miserable and bedridden for nine months. She frames this as an initiation that ultimately led to her awakening. The "Four Ps" — Pretty, Pleasing, Polite, Performance — Monica describes the patriarchal conditioning that programs women to perform a certain identity, and how exhausting and ultimately unsustainable it becomes. Defining Intuition — Monica defines intuition as a somatic knowing rooted in body connection, something women lose through patriarchal conditioning and reclaim through inner work. The Inner Critic / Inner Voices — A pivotal moment for Monica was hearing her own inner abuser for the first time in a grocery store parking lot, which she traced back to internalized critical voices from parents and teachers. This leads into a discussion of Internal Family Systems (parts work). The Myth of Inanna — Monica uses the Sumerian myth of Inanna's descent into the underworld as a metaphor for the dark night of the soul — stripping away false identities at each "gate" and reclaiming abandoned parts of the self on the way back up. Co-Active Coaching — Monica explains her coaching style as collaborative and question-based, creating a safe container for women to surface trapped emotions and gain revelations. Unbecoming — The core of Monica's framework: shedding who the world told you to be in order to reveal who you truly are. "Revelation to revolution." Women's Bodies & Autoimmune Health — Both Monica and Megan connect chronic illness and autoimmune disorders to emotional suppression and over-functioning, particularly as women approach perimenopause. Breaking Patriarchal Programs — The conversation critiques how women are policed externally and internally (including a humorous riff on the "inner boho Karen"), and how reclaiming authorship of your own life is the antidote. Wrap-up — Monica directs listeners to jointherevelation.com , where there's a free "Women's Bill of Rights" she wrote for herself after her dark night.
