Part 1 of 3: EMILY JOHNSON - Hospitalization, Recovery & Weaknesses in the U.S. Healthcare System
Send us Fan Mail On today's episode, we're kicking off part 1 of a 3 part series where we’ll hear about the pregnancy and postpartum experience from the perspective of a new mother and someone who supported her every step of the way. Today, we're sitting down with Emily Johnson — a mom, a writer, and an absolute powerhouse of an advocate who is passionate about challenging weaknesses in the US healthcare system. She knows, because she’s navigated it - both personally and professionally. Emily’s entree into motherhood wasn’t at all what she or her family ever expected. She knew something was wrong. She just didn't have the terminology, and neither did most of the people she was asking for help, to pinpoint what was going on or how to find relief. We'll talk about crippling anxiety, what it feels like to leave appointment after appointment with no real answers or resources, and a middle of the night phone call to a crisis line that kicked her family support into high gear. The road that followed included a hospital stay, a specialized program that was miraculously 10 minutes from home, and a family that showed up in a big way. This one is raw, and a powerful reminder of why PSI is in existence - so parents and families face fewer roadblocks to accessing the specialized, informed care that they deserve. We’ve been counting down the days until we could share this 3 part series with you. So, without further ado, please sit back, relax, and enjoy part 1 with our friend, Emily.
