Historic Military Interviews, sets out to create a audio series of service veterans telling their stories, their service experiences on the battlefield and off, helping soldiers tell their story of being on the ground and many of the challenges they faced in battle situations. Our focus is on the less well-known stories and the everyday experiences soldiers had to endure. We seek to highlight the difficulties and hardship soldiers faced, along perhaps with their achievements, and how this moulded them into the people they became. ‘Nobody wants to know, it doesn’t matter, it’s too hard to talk about and I don’t want to talk about those times.’ Actually yes, people do want to know, it most certainly matters, and we have found when a sympathetic pair of ex-servicemen break the ice in the discussion with the veteran, they find they do want to talk – the process is cathartic for the veteran and liberating in the same way a counsellor releases a pent-up memory.
