Protect Your Kidney from the Beginning !!!
Diabetes is increasingly common among older adults, making regular screening and proper management essential. Dr. Sunil Gupta emphasizes that elderly people with diabetes should regularly monitor blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol, along with routine kidney assessments. In the early stages of diabetic kidney disease, microalbuminuria may develop. However, a single positive result does not always indicate permanent kidney damage, as urinary albumin can temporarily increase due to infection, fever, exercise, stress, or acute illness. Therefore, repeat testing is important before confirming the condition. People with a family history of diabetes should be particularly careful and undergo regular screening. If prediabetes is detected, lifestyle modifications—including maintaining a healthy weight, following a balanced diet, and staying physically active—can help reduce the risk of progressing to diabetes. Early prevention and regular monitoring can significantly improve long-term health. Dr. Sunil Gupta also emphasizes that there is no need to fear insulin therapy. Modern insulin pens use very fine needles and are much more comfortable than older injection methods. Type 2 diabetes is a progressive condition, and treatment may need to change over time. With appropriate medical care, lifestyle modification, and efforts to preserve pancreatic beta-cell function, good blood glucose control can be maintained for many years.
