Healthcare is Human
From Ballet to Graduate Medical Education
Send us Fan Mail From Ballet to Graduate Medical Education In this episode we meet Gabrielle Butler, a native of Martinsburg, West Virginia, who recently became the program manager for the Berkeley Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency. “I started ballet at two years old because my older sister was in dance. I wanted to do everything she did. It became such a part of my life that I majored in dance, along with business, in college.” “Dance has given me an awareness of my own body and it has helped me break out of my shell and learn how to be uncomfortable in situations where I have to perform. When you are on stage, you have to commit. Even if I am tired and hungry, I have to put on a smile and go out there and do what I need to do.” “As a dancer, I have developed discipline, and I bring these habits to my work. I have a creative energy, one that I use to teach dance, actually in the studio where I started learning ballet. I get to choreograph and it makes me feel great to see young kids fall in love with dance.” Healthcare is Human is created by Ryan McCarthy and is a signature program of the Berkeley Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency in Martinsburg, WV, https://medicine.wvu.edu/internal-medicine-eastern-division/residency/ This podcast is engineered by Kym Mattioli.
