Africa’s Energy Transition overview | Basil Amuzu-Sefordzi, PhD, Oghosa Erhahon
Dr Basil Amuzu-Sefordzi is a PhD‑trained sustainability transitions scholar and environmental engineer with more than ten years of ESG and clean energy experience across Africa and Australia. His work spans environmental compliance, ESG strategy, and renewable energy project development. He has published influential research on Africa’s hydrogen potential, completed a PhD on renewable energy project bankability at UWA, and delivered USD 20 million in ESIA due diligence for Fortescue across 20+ African projects. He helped advance major clean energy ventures, including a 70 MW solar‑plus‑storage project in Djibouti and a 2.5 GW green hydrogen/ammonia partnership with AMEA Power. Basil founded Tersus Innovations, a sustainability consultancy, and co‑founded Qknow, a profitable EdTech venture backed by Mastercard Foundation funding and now positioned for a USD 20 million Series A. Oghosa Erhahon is an energy policy and power systems specialist with a background in law, energy markets and sustainable development. Her work focuses on shaping the policy, market and investment frameworks required to accelerate clean energy deployment, unlock emerging technologies and build more resilient and competitive power systems. Across her career, Oghosa has worked at the intersection of industry, government and international development, contributing to energy and infrastructure programmes supported by USAID, UKNIAF and GIZ. She has contributed to international policy and research initiatives with IRENA and the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS), and has served on the Bretton Woods Committee’s Climate Finance Project Team. Oghosa is currently Policy and Markets Manager at the Long Duration Energy Storage Council, where she works with industry and stakeholders on the policy, market and procurement frameworks needed to scale long-duration energy storage globally. She is also a TEDx speaker on carbon neutrality and co-founder of the Lagos Climate Network.
