Fine Line & Whiskey
Episode 022 — Garage Debrief: Brickyard, Iowa & NASCAR’s Next Direction
Two weeks. Two very different races. And a whole lot to talk about over a glass of whiskey. On this episode of Fine Line & Whiskey , we’re back in the garage for another Garage Debrief —where we skip the lap-by-lap box score and get into the conversations that actually matter. The Brickyard and Iowa gave us a crown-jewel upset, a surging JGR/Toyota camp, a tightening Chase bubble, and plenty of signs that NASCAR is still trying to figure out exactly what it wants the sport to look like moving forward. We break down Corey Heim’s massive Brickyard 400 victory , Ty Gibbs getting it done at Iowa, Christopher Bell’s continued consistency, Ryan Blaney’s speed, and Ross Chastain trying to claw his way back into the Chase conversation. Then we update our Chase 16 Projection with only three regular-season races remaining and look at who appears safe, who’s sweating the cutline, and who may be running out of time. Then comes the bigger question: Is NASCAR building a better product—or chasing novelty? With the 2027 schedule taking shape and NASCAR leadership already talking about what the sport could look like beyond 2030, we debate whether constant change is creating a must-watch national motorsports calendar or making it harder for fans to know which races and traditions actually matter. We also head to the Garage Debate to talk digital mirrors, blocking, and rivalries , including Ty Gibbs’ comments about mirror-blocking and the naturally developing Corey Heim–Carson Hocevar rivalry. Plus, it’s Knoxville Nationals week, so we head to the dirt to talk sprint cars, NASCAR crossovers, Kyle Larson, and one of the biggest weeks in American dirt racing. Finally, we hit the Garage Board Quick Hits : Richmond, Josh Berry’s uncertain 2027 future, Hendrick Motorsports’ summer struggles, our Stock Up and Stock Down picks, and our Bad Take of the Week before looking ahead to a pressure-packed Richmond race and the chaos card waiting at Daytona.
