Episode #30
Stuck in the 1970s
Fifty years ago, Buckley v. Valeo wrote the rules PACs still live by. This summer, the Supreme Court rewrote some of them. Former FEC Chairman Allen Dickerson , now a partner at BakerHostetler, joins Micaela Isler, David Schild and Adam Belmar to sort out what changed and what didn't. Parties can now coordinate with their candidates without limit. Super PACs have been unlimited since 2010. And the PAC your employees fund still writes the same $5,000 check Congress set in 1974. Allen calls that something of a scandal, and says fixing it is Congress's job. He also takes on donor disclosure in the internet age, the FEC without a quorum, and the paperwork that trips people up in the last weeks before Election Day. Episode Sponsor: Aristotle
