#161 Consistency: Why Making It Easier Might Be the Answer
Send us Fan Mail We’re heading into fall… allegedly. Here in Southern California, it’s still hot, humid, and not exactly giving cozy sweater weather. But the change of seasons got me thinking about another kind of transition—the ones we’re constantly trying to make in our own lives. And specifically: Why is it so hard to stay consistent when we KNOW what we want to do? On this episode of Everything's Messy Podcast I get down to the triggers that might keep us from executing a plan of action to be consistent and peel back the layers to discover what's holding us back... We hear all the time that consistency is the secret to building habits. Be consistent with your workouts. Be consistent with your food. Be consistent with your sleep. Be consistent with your routines. Okay...but what happens when you’re burned out? What happens when your nervous system is already overwhelmed, you're making a thousand decisions a day, and adding one more “healthy habit” feels like one more thing you’re failing at? In this episode, I’m talking about the connection between burnout, mindset, decision-making, and consistency—and why the answer may not be more discipline. Sometimes, we need to go back to the MESS first. I share one of my own struggles with meal prepping. I had all the right intentions, but I was making the process so complicated that I couldn't consistently do it. When I finally reversed the way I was thinking about it, I realized something ridiculously simple: I was making it harder than it needed to be. Instead of prepping a million different meals, I started focusing on a few basic ingredients I could mix and match for myself and my family. Less decision-making. Less overwhelm. Less perfection. More consistency. That’s where momentum starts. This episode is your reminder that maybe you don't need to try harder. Maybe you need to make it simpler. Because sustainable consistency isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about creating something you can actually keep doing when life gets messy. Keep it Messy.
