Week 6 Podcast: Digital Technologies in Education Introduction Hello and welcome to my Week 6 podcast for the Digital Literacies for Education module. Chris Green highlights the need for ongoing professional development to help teachers use digital tools effectively and confidently. Implications for Learners Digital technologies can make learning more accessible. Haleem et al. (2022) argue that digital education provides flexible and interactive learning opportunities. Tools such as audio readers, visual supports, and recorded lessons can help learners with additional needs. Technology can also encourage creativity and collaboration through activities such as creating presentations, videos, and podcasts. Despite these benefits, there are concerns about safeguarding and wellbeing. Chris Green discusses issues such as cyberbullying, online safety, and digital footprints. Educators therefore play an important role in teaching learners how to use technology responsibly. Another challenge is the digital divide. While some schools provide learners with devices and internet access, others have limited resources. This can create inequalities in learning opportunities. Reflection and Conclusion Overall, digital technologies offer many benefits, including improved communication, accessibility, and learner engagement. However, technology should support learning rather than replace human relationships. Teachers remain essential in guiding learners, promoting wellbeing, and helping students think critically about the digital world.
