AuDHD: changing the story (RCPsych Congress 2026)
This podcast explores AuDHD, the co-occurrence of autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and why recognising this presentation is increasingly important in contemporary psychiatric practice. Although autism and ADHD commonly occur together, both conditions were historically viewed and assessed separately, contributing to delayed or missed diagnoses for many individuals. Recorded at the Royal College of Psychiatrists' International Congress in Liverpool, Dr Myooran Canagaratnam speaks with Dr Khurram Sadiq and Dr Asif Bachlani, who have developed clinical expertise in this area. They explain how features of autism and ADHD interact across the lifespan, the challenges of assessment and diagnosis, and the implications for treatment, service development and workplace support. The discussion highlights the importance of a personalised, strengths-based approach to understanding and supporting people with AuDHD.
