At UIC, she worked as a graduate lecturer before beginning her doctoral research at the University of Chicago. Her current work focuses on the interrelation of ethics and aesthetics in Soviet art and literature, tracing the formal and philosophical influences of pre-revolutionary religious traditions on the development of Soviet cultural practices. She has published on Soviet Modernism, Eastern European Conceptual art, and crypto art. She is currently working on two articles devoted respectively to Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, examining the relationship between the ethical and the aesthetic in their literary practices. She is also the creator of the Museum Fatigue YouTube channel, an ongoing project dedicated to Russian literature, art history, and the role of aesthetics in contemporary life. In 2018, she completed the official portrait of Governor Tom Corbett for the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Catherine has exhibited widely in museums and galleries and has received numerous honors from organizations such as the Portrait Society of America and the Salmagundi Club. She taught painting and drawing at Messiah College for twenty years and continues to teach in Gordon College’s Orvieto, Italy program. She lives and works in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
